In the Gospels, we see Christ’s burning desire for the salvation of souls. The disciples asked Christ, “Where dwellest thou?” and simply He said, “Come, and see.” It was not a complicated phrase; no translation was needed, just three small words. These disciples did not have to press the pause button on their TV’s, or forward their answering machines in order to go with Christ. They did not need to have a GPS to find where Christ lived. They just followed.
Christ did not make a big scene revealing a sign with flashing lights, or voice His message over a megaphone… and yet the simplicity of Christ’s words were enough to intrigue the disciples into seeking the truth. They left all to follow Him; even leaving father, mother, and relatives to find the way of salvation.
Christ calls; it is up to us to answer that call. He knocks; it is up to us, to open the door to our hearts. So often do people expect a crash of thunder or a bolt of lightning to manifest God’s will to them. Yet, in all their wishful thinking and expectations, they do not hear the quiet voice of Jesus, whispering in their innermost heart. He says, “Deny yourself, take up thy cross and follow Me.”
Christ wants to show us where He dwells. He wants to hear our answer. If we follow we will see that it is not a boisterous and exuberant palace, with feasts and banquets… rather it is a small tabernacle, ornamented with only a veil, which contains the Bread of angels. He waits for us to come to Him; He wants to dwell in our hearts, and only when we put aside the cares and preoccupations of this earth, will we be able to “put on Christ,” and dwell united with Him.
