The Saint John the Baptist Pro-Life League is an organization of students of Immaculate Heart of Mary School who believe that this killing must stop. The goal is to stop abortion through prayer and certain activities.
Each member is required to say one decade of the rosary every day for the unborn. The League also makes and distributes rosaries realizing that prayer is the only power we have against the evils of abortion.
Every year members raise funds through raffles, etc. to hire a bus to go to Washington D.C. for the "March For Life"… the protest march against the Roe vs. Wade decision. Along with hundreds of thousands of Pro-Lifers from across the country and beyond, they march up Constitution Avenue to the Supreme Court.
Members also try to pray the rosary in front of local abortion mills as often as possible and promote this worthy action at all times.
Aside from the weekly gym classes included in the school schedule, IHM has recently added some sports programs to the extracurricular organizations available.
Within these programs which consist of girls basketball, boys basketball and boys baseball, IHM students learn the values associated with discipline, performing under stress, teamwork, sacrifice, commitment, effort, accountability, citizenship, sportsmanship, confidence, leadership and organizational skills, participating within rules, physical well-being and healthy lifestyles, striving towards excellence, and many other character-building lessons.
Ethics, playing within the spirit of the rules, and good sportsmanship are also woven into the fabric of the athletic program.
While winning contests, rather than losing them, is a laudable goal, it does not supersede the primary purpose of IHM sport programs: Win or lose, students learn lessons of a lasting and positive nature.
